I learned today that Jan Shutan, guest star on my favorite Star Trek love story "The Lights of Zetar", passed away a few weeks ago on Oct. 7, 2021. There are so few actors and actresses left from the original series anymore, making the loss of each one especially poignant. I would dearly loved to have met Jan, and I am deeply saddened to learn of her passing. Mira Romaine and Scotty were such a beautiful, loving example of a May-December romance. Glad Scotty finally found someone worthy of him! Jan was seen in a number of shows throughout the 60s and a few appearances during the 70s. A very beautiful and talented woman who will be missed. I have included a link to her obituary in the LA Times: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/latimes/name/jan-levinson-obituary?id=31119743 Rest in peace.

That's a bummer. It's a lovely obituary.
RIP, Jan.

This is a shock, partly because Star Trek people never get older as we watch the series.
Jan Shutan did a very nice interview with Starlog magazine. One little comment that stuck with me: she was self-conscious in her uniform because she thought her thighs were too big. Of course they weren't, she was a total smoke show.

Aw, no. RIP. I thought she was among the very best Starfleet guest stars and seemed to be a very nice person as well. PS, she looked fantastic in her uniform and I'm sorry she ever thought otherwise.

Sad news.
I wish she had made another appearance in Star Trek, either in the fourth season we never got, or in the movies.

In the time capsule of Star Trek, we will always have the Scotty and Mira romance. Thank you, Jan.

A total smoke show--I love it! Have never heard that expression before, but it's great! Yes, I talk about the comment on her legs in my blog. I think she looked really nice.

You and me both!! I started a lengthy fan fiction story a few years ago about their life together, and yes, in my Star Trek universe, they are husband and wife! I really need to get around to finishing the story and posting it on my blog (hope you will visit the site) and also here on Trek BBS.

Simon Pegg mentioned her character in a STAR TREK BEYOND deleted scene. Scotty and Mira were going on another date.
I mention that scene in my blog. I can't BELIEVE they chose THAT scene to delete! Oy.....

Typical JJTrek nonsense. So, wait - was Mira cast?

Probably just a mention in dialog, similar to ST09's mention of "Admiral Archer."

I believe I saw, either in the deleted scene itself or somewhere else, that Mira had been cast as a blonde or at least blondish. A bit of a departure from the original, certainly. No idea why.

Argh. If so, even MORE JJTrek nonsense!! I'm surprised Simon Pegg didn't have a pink wig and an Irish accent, because HEY!! THIS IS AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE!!!
Excuse me. And now, back to our remembrance of Ms. Shutan Levinson.
