Grievance Ascends - Blasphemous Guide - IGN (2025)

Grievance Ascends is the twelfth level in Blasphemous. This page features a detailed walkthrough of this area, explaining the new enemy types you'll encounter, as well as information on collectibles you can find.

Grievance Ascends

As you drop down from Jondo, you'll land in the room with a Prie Dieu. Go down and you'll come to your first set of leaping enemies, with a living statue in the wall on the left.

Keep going down, taking out the leaping enemies and an additional living statue and you'll come to a set of stairs with a door on the left and on the right.

The door to the left has a fast travel portal inside, which will allow you to go back to Albero and Mercy Dreams. The door to the right will take you to a corridor where the floating enemies with bells attached to them will appear.

Once you've beaten them, go through the door on the right. The next room has a leaping enemy and another floating one. You can go up and down in this room.

If you go up, you'll need to jump through the gaps in the poison mist (though you can take damage if you have something that can protect you well enough like the Moss Preserved in Glass). Going up will lead you to a room where you can cleanse your Guilt.

Go back down and continue doing so until you reach the door. Below is an item, but it's covered in poison mist, so you'll need some protection before you can grab it so it's best to return to this one later. Continue across to the door and as you do, you'll be locked in. A spectre will appear with a sword, and she'll lunge at you to attack.

You'll need to avoid the lunge attacks and hit her quickly to defeat her. When she's finished, two more will appear and you'll have to beat these to unlock the doors.

In the next room, you'll have a living statue on the wall to the right to defeat to be able to progress, and a spectre. Climb up on the right-hand side and then across to the left, to deal with the second living wall. Through this door, you'll be met with a floating enemy and one of the spectres with a sword. Once you defeat them, more will spawn. You'll also have to contend with the platforms that will crumble and fall, so be careful where you slide. Once you've dealt with them, continue on to the right.

You'll then come to a room covered in poison, with an item on the bottom right. This is the Frontal of Martinus, the Ropemaker. Climb up to the top of this room. You'll have to try and avoid the moving poison, by going up when there are gaps. However, you won't always be able to miss it as it moves much faster, so you want to make sure that it doesn't hit you as you climb up the wooden planks, so you aren't knocked down repeatedly.

When you get to the top you'll see a Cherub and a chest that has a Silvered Lung of Dolphos in it. You can now use this to safely collect the items that are in the poison.

Make your way back down to the door, then back across the bridge that crumbles. You now want to go all the way down in this room. Drop down until you reach the ladder, then climb down when the poison mist has cleared. Keep going down until you come to the first door on the right, but don't go in here just yet. Go further down and make your way into the room on the left. Here you can fill your Empty Biliary Vessel for additional health.

Go back outside of this room and with the Blood Perpetuated in Sand equipped, you'll be able to cross over the blood ledges to reach the second floor on the right.

This will take you to a chalice where you can anoint yourself with the Oil of the Pilgrims and increase your fervour.

Now climb back up to the first door you came across on the right. Go through here and into the next room. You can also go up and down in this room, if you go up you'll need to kill the living statue on the wall to the left and right before you can jump up to grab the broken ladders. You'll have to time this in the breaks in the poison mist. As you start to climb the ladders, the leaping enemies will jump down so you want to make sure you take these out so they don't knock you down.

Climb to the top on the left and hit the wall to reveal a secret passage. Go to the right and you'll reach a gap in the bridge that will be broken, but the Blood of Perpetuated Sand will create a safe bridge for you to cross and pick up Melted Golden Coins.

There is also a Cherub here higher up.

Now go back to the room you climbed up using the broken ladders and make your way down. Here you'll come to a door on the right and a staircase leading down into another area. If you take the door to the right, you can use the Prie Dieu to save and replenish your flasks. Once you've done this, go down the staircase and you'll see a cherub and a door further down on the left.

Inside the door, you'll find three golden plates and a giant head. You need to make three offerings to it, which are:

• Melted Gold Coins
• Torn Bridal Ribbon
• Black Grieving Veil

After making these offerings, a woman with three faces will emerge, known as Altasgracias. They will give you the Egg of Deformity, which you'll need for a side quest.

Now go back up to the Prie Dieu and if you carry on along the corridor, you'll see Virdiana again. As usual, she will offer to help you against the upcoming boss battle until she's done this three times and can offer the help no more. Continue past her and into the next room with multiple platforms.

Boss Battle Against Tres Angustias

This boss battle not only sees you fight the Tres Angustias, but also requires you to keep moving up the room. There are platforms you'll need to use to keep climbing up, both avoiding the attacks from the Tres Angustias and the fire at the bottom of the room. If you drop into the flames, you will die instantly.

Each of the Tres Angustias has a weapon; two have spears that they will shoot out at you, while one has a staff that she'll throw out as a spinning wheel. During these attacks, you'll need to dodge the spinning wheel, as well as the bolts that the Anguistas with the spears have.

Occasionally, the three will unite as one and send out giant purple beams straight up that deal damage. You'll be able to see where these beams will go, as they charge the attack.

They will move around the room with you, as you climb the platforms, so try to attack as much as you can before you need to move up.

Defeating them will earn you the Danse Macabre achievement. You'll then automatically drop back down to where you began the fight. Now go through the door to the right and be transported to another dream to pick up the Holy Wound of Contrition from the Golden Visage.

A cut scene will begin when you've acquired all three, which shows the door from the Bridge of the Three Calvaries opening.

Speak to Deogracias

Continue on and you'll enter the Desecrated Cistern, speak to Deogracias here then go to the door on the right and upgrade your health.

Now take the lift up, where you'll come you'll come to a room with a lever and a Cherub. Hit the lever to pull the ladder down. If you have the ranged attack unlocked on your Mea Culpa, you can hit the Cherub when jumping from the ladder.

Go left and make your way up to Albero, so you can begin your journey to the Bridge of the Three Calvaries.
