If you are a hand letterer, do you find you have gotten stuck on how to change up your lettering? I know that I tend to stick to similar ways to write my letters and sometimes need a little extra inspiration to help change it up. That is what this workbook is all about. Inspiration to help you add variety to your lettering and designs.

I know you love coming to Liz on Call for all the great free downloads. This workbook however, is not one of those products. I have a printables shop and this 5 Ways to Letter the Alphabet workbook is one of the newest products in the Liz on Call Shop.

Once you print out the workbook, you can practice directly on the workbook pages. If you want to practice right on the pages, I recommend printing these off on a smooth copy paper like this HP 32 lb smooth copy paper.

If you want to reuse these workbook pages, just cover them with a piece of tracing paper and practice your lettering on the tracing paper. My favorite tracing paper is actually this Canson marker paper. No matter what type of pen you use, it will not leak through this paper. These worksheets can be used with all types of pens. You could even just use a pencil if that is all you have on hand. Just make sure to thicken the downstrokes and fill in when neccessary. You can see an example of that technique in the 2nd letter C in the photo below.

However, some of my favorite hand lettering pens come from Tombow. If you’re a beginner, I would start with the Tombow Fudenosuke pens. There is a hard nib that requires a bit more pressure to create the thicker downstrokes and help form that muscle memory. And the soft nib is just really fun to create a lot of that beautiful faux calligraphy. If you are looking to get started with brush pens, the Tombow dual brush pens are my favorites. You can see more of my favorite lettering tools in my Amazon store.

It’s national handwriting day and I thought practicing our alphabet variations would be a great way to spend the day!

Happy Lettering!
